The United States Holds the World's Largest Gold Reserves.

Gold is one of the components in forming foreign exchange reserves. Central banks in a country hold foreign exchange reserves in the form of gold, including some of the largest in the world.

According to Statista, the largest foreign exchange reserves in the form of gold until September 2021 were held by the United States Federal Reserve, reaching 8,133.53 metric tons. The proportion of gold reserves in the United States is equivalent to 79% of total foreign exchange reserves.

Gold reserves at the United States Federal Reserve are even twice as large as Germany's and three times larger than Italy's and France's. Germany's gold reserves are recorded at 3,359.11 metric tons.

Meanwhile, Italy and France have gold reserves of 2,451.86 metric tons and 2,436.37 metric tons, respectively. Russia's gold reserves are recorded at 2,298.55 metric tons.

China is recorded as having gold reserves reaching 1,948.32 metric tons. Following that is Switzerland with gold reserves of 1,040.01 metric tons.

Japan's gold reserves are recorded at 845.98 metric tons. India and Turkey have gold reserves of 725.18 metric tons and 687.9 metric tons, respectively.
