Forbes magazine has released its 2024 list of the world's highest-paid athletes. Of the 10 athletes on the list, 5 are soccer players.
Cristiano Ronaldo is listed as the highest-paid athlete globally this year. The Al Nassr captain is estimated to have earned US$260 million, equivalent to Rp4.15 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp15,972 per US$).
“This income is largely due to his annual salary of US$200 million with Al Nassr,” Forbes wrote in its report titled *The World’s 10 Highest-Paid Athletes 2024*.
In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo also earned US$60 million from off-field endorsements with major brands such as Nike, Herbalife, Clear, and most recently, Whoop.
Another soccer player, Lionel Messi, ranks third as the world's highest-paid athlete this year. The athlete nicknamed La Pulga earned US$218 million, or approximately Rp3.48 trillion.
Besides playing for Inter Miami, Messi is reportedly collaborating with White Claw Hard Seltzer to launch his own sports drink this summer.
Kylian Mbappé follows in sixth place, earning approximately US$110 million or Rp1.75 trillion.
Neymar and Karim Benzema follow in seventh and eighth place respectively, with estimated earnings of US$108 million (Rp1.72 trillion) and US$106 million (Rp1.69 trillion).
