The rapid growth of the internet and television in Indonesia hasn't diminished radio listenership. The Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) survey in the third quarter of this year still positions radio as a popular choice among Indonesians. Radio listener penetration reached 38 percent, or approximately 20 million people.
This Nielsen survey covered 11 major cities in Indonesia. On average, urban residents spend 139 minutes per week listening to the radio, primarily for information or music.
The survey revealed that Generation X spends the most time listening to the radio, averaging 18 hours and 13 minutes per week. Four out of 10 people listen to the radio using earphones.
Nielsen RAM is a radio listenership measurement survey of 8,400 respondents aged 10 and above. The surveyed cities include Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Surakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Medan, Palembang, Makassar, and Banjarmasin.
