A JakPat survey reveals several ways fans support their favorite musicians.

Listening to their favorite musician's music is the most common form of support, cited by 48% of Gen Z and millennial respondents in Indonesia.

A smaller percentage of respondents support their favorite musicians by purchasing merchandise or physical albums.

"This indicates that the strongest emotional support occurs in digital interactions rather than financial contributions," JakPat wrote in its Music Concert Trends & Fan Behaviors 2025 report.

The following are the ways young people support their favorite musicians, according to the JakPat survey:

1. Listening to the musician's music: 48%

2. Following the musician on social media: 43%

3. Sharing/using the musician's work on social media: 27%

4. Watching the musician's online concerts: 21%

5. Attending the musician's concerts in person, both domestically and internationally: 19%

6. Joining fanbases: 16%

7. Buying merchandise (official or unofficial): 15%

8. Buying physical albums: 12%

9. Buying products from collaborations or endorsements by the musician: 9%

10. Attending fan meetings: 7%

JakPat also found that the majority of young respondents prefer Indonesian musicians. Specifically, 77% of Gen Z respondents and 76% of millennial respondents. South Korea and the United States followed with lower percentages.

This survey involved 1,658 respondents spread across Bali and Java, narrowed down to 1,659 respondents who have a favorite musician.

Overall, the respondents consisted of 51% male and 49% female. By age group, 49% were millennials (29-44 years old) and 51% were Gen Z (15-28 years old).

The survey was conducted online via the Jakpat application from August 15-17, 2025, with a margin of error below 5%.
