US$304 Billion Worth of Cocoa Imported in January 2025: Here Are the Suppliers

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reports that Indonesia imported cocoa and cocoa products (HS 18) worth US$304.41 million in January 2025. This value surged 119% month-to-month (mtm) from December 2024, which amounted to US$140 million.

According to BPS, this increase in cocoa raw material imports aims to support Indonesia's cocoa product production for export activities.

In January 2025, Ecuador was the largest cocoa supplier to Indonesia, with imports valued at US$136.79 million. The imported cocoa consisted of cocoa beans, whole or broken, raw or roasted, and fermented (18010010).

Indonesia also imported significant quantities of cocoa from Kenya (US$32.08 million) and Cameroon (US$24.33 million).

This was followed by imports from Malaysia (US$15.66 million), Papua New Guinea (US$14.40 million), and other countries (US$81.17 million).

By HS code, cocoa imports to Indonesia were dominated by cocoa beans, whole or broken, raw or roasted, fermented (18010010), valued at US$266.51 million, or 87.5% of total imports.

This was followed by imports of cocoa powder without added sugar or other sweeteners (18050000) worth US$16.45 million; and chocolate and other cocoa-containing food products (18069090) worth US$7.41 million.
