Since the outbreak of the Israeli-Palestinian Hamas war in October 2023, numerous calls to boycott Israeli products have circulated. The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) even issued Fatwa Number 83 of 2023, prohibiting all forms of support for Israel, including transactions and the use of products affiliated with the country.
Despite this, the flow of imports from Israel to Indonesia has actually increased.
According to data from the Ministry of Trade, before the war broke out, from January to April 2023, the total value of imports from Israel was only US$6.7 million.
Then, after the war intensified, from January to April 2024, the import value rose to US$29.2 million, a surge of 334%.
However, the value of imports from Israel in January-April 2024 constituted a very small portion, only 0.05% of the total national non-oil and gas import value.
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), products from Israel that entered Indonesia in January-April 2024 were:
* Heating/cooling equipment: US$15.61 million
* Steam generating equipment: US$5.92 million
* Pumps for liquids: US$1.55 million
* Hand/machine tools: US$1.22 million
* Telecommunications equipment: US$731,900
* Others: US$4.19 million
