IHSG Falls Again, IDX Temporarily Halts Trading (January 29, 2026)

The Jakarta Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) fell 8% to 7,654 on Thursday morning (29/1/2026). The Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) temporarily suspended trading.

"Today, Thursday, January 29, 2026, a temporary trading halt was implemented on the trading system at PT BEI at 09:26:01 Jakarta Automated Trading System (JATS) time," said BEI in a press release.

"Trading will resume at 09:56:01 JATS time without any changes to the trading schedule. This action was taken due to an 8% drop in the IHSG," they continued.

"BEI is taking this action to maintain orderly, fair, and efficient stock trading," they said.

The drop in the IHSG this morning continued the drastic decline that occurred since Wednesday (28/1/2026), after Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) announced the suspension of the valuation of several indices involving Indonesian stocks.

MSCI took this action due to global investors' concerns about the transparency of stock ownership data and the viability of investing in the Indonesian securities market.

"To address some of these concerns, more detailed and reliable information on the structure of stock ownership, including the possibility of monitoring high concentrations of stock ownership, is needed to support a robust assessment of free-floating shares and the viability of investing in all Indonesian securities," said MSCI in its official announcement, reported by Katadata.co.id on Wednesday (28/1/2026).

According to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, BEI will conduct an evaluation to follow up on MSCI's report.

"There's no need to panic. Stocks always have ups and downs every day," said Airlangga, reported by Katadata.co.id.
