Top 10 Global Copper Producing Countries in 2024: Indonesia Included

A United States Geological Survey (USGS) report reveals that estimated global copper mining production reached 23 million metric tons in 2024. This volume increased by 1.76% compared to 2023, which was 22.6 million metric tons.

According to the producing countries, Chile had the largest estimated production volume at 5.3 million metric tons in 2024, a slight increase from 5.25 million metric tons in 2023.

The USGS also reported that Chile's copper reserves are estimated at 190 million metric tons.

The Democratic Republic of Congo came in second, with an estimated production of 3.3 million metric tons, up from 2.93 million tons in 2023. The Congo's reserves are predicted to reach 80 million metric tons.

Peru is in third place, with an estimated production of 2.6 million metric tons, a decrease from 2.76 million in 2023. Peru is estimated to have copper reserves of up to 100 million metric tons.

Indonesia ranks sixth, with an estimated production volume of 1.1 million metric tons, up from 907,000 metric tons in 2023.

The USGS also calculated that Indonesia has copper reserves of up to 21 million metric tons.

The following are the top 10 countries with the largest estimated copper mining production volumes in the world in 2024:

* Democratic Republic of Congo: 3,300,000 metric tons
* Peru: 2,600,000 metric tons
* China: 1,800,000 metric tons
* United States: 1,100,000 metric tons
* Indonesia: 1,100,000 metric tons
* Russia: 930,000 metric tons
* Australia: 800,000 metric tons
* Kazakhstan: 740,000 metric tons
* Mexico: 700,000 metric tons.
