Indonesian households utilize a variety of cooking fuels.
According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the most common fuel used is liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
In March 2023, 85.96%, or almost 86%, of Indonesian households used LPG for cooking.
Other fuels such as firewood, kerosene, piped natural gas/biogas, electric stoves, and briquettes/charcoal are also used, but their proportions are very small, as shown in the graph.
Despite LPG being the primary fuel, Indonesia cannot yet meet its supply independently.
According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Indonesia's LPG production volume in 2023 was only 1.98 million tons, while consumption reached 8.7 million tons.
To cover this supply deficit, Indonesia imported 6.95 million tons of LPG in 2023, equivalent to almost 80% of total national needs.
