The prices of eggs and chicken meat are starting to climb in anticipation of Ramadan. The National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS) recorded the average price of fresh chicken eggs on May 11, 2018, reaching Rp 25,300/kg, a Rp 1,400/kg (5.86%) increase from April 30th. This increase is the largest compared to other commodities this month.
Other food prices that have increased include fresh chicken meat, which rose by Rp 1,250/kg (3.63%) to Rp 35,650/kg from Rp 34,400 at the end of last month. The price of branded packaged cooking oil (grade 2) also increased by Rp 50/kg (0.35%) to Rp 14,200/kg from Rp 14,150/kg.
Meanwhile, the commodity experiencing the sharpest price decrease is medium-sized garlic, down Rp 2,450/kg (7.51%) to Rp 30,150/kg from Rp 32,600/kg at the end of last month. This is followed by red chilies, which decreased by Rp 2,050/kg (5.23%) to Rp 37,150/kg from Rp 39,200/kg.
