Throughout 2022, LQ45 bank stocks showed varied performance. Some experienced significant gains, while others suffered drastic declines.
LQ45 is an index comprising 45 issuers selected by the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) based on specific criteria, such as the largest market capitalization and highest liquidity.
This year, seven banking sector issuers were included in the LQ45 index:
1. Bank Jago (ARTO)
2. Bank Central Asia (BBCA)
3. Bank Negara Indonesia (BBNI)
4. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI)
5. Bank Tabungan Negara (BBTN)
6. Bank Mandiri (BMRI)
7. Bank Syariah Indonesia (BRIS)
Among these, BMRI was the most successful. Between January 3 and December 27, 2022, its share price surged 41.13% (year-to-date/ytd).
BBNI's share price rose 38.29% (ytd), followed by BBCA and BBRI, which also strengthened, as detailed in the graph.
Conversely, BBTN and BRIS share prices fell by approximately 21% (ytd) and 28% (ytd), respectively. ARTO's performance was even worse, plummeting 79.34% (ytd) during the same period.
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) increased by 2.62% (ytd) between January 3 and December 27, 2022.
This year, the IHSG reached a record high, surpassing the psychological level of 7,000 in March 2022. The IHSG subsequently fell significantly to around 6,500 in mid-May, but its trend strengthened again until the end of December.
