In 2021, Bank Mandiri took the lead with assets reaching Rp1.73 quadrillion, an 11.91% increase year-on-year.
This growth in Bank Mandiri's assets is attributed to the merger of three sharia banking entities from three state-owned banks: PT Bank BRI Syariah Tbk, PT Bank Syariah Mandiri, and PT Bank BNI Syariah. These merged to form PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI).
The newly merged entity became a subsidiary of Bank Mandiri. BSI's assets reached Rp305.73 trillion in 2022, a 15.42% increase from Rp265.29 trillion the previous year.
Bank BRI's assets grew by only 4.23% to Rp1.69 quadrillion, resulting in Bank Mandiri reclaiming the top spot.
