Venture capital financing up to July 2017 reached Rp 6.8 trillion, a decrease of 16.2 percent compared to the end of 2016, which was Rp 8.14 trillion. Of this amount, 74.3 percent was profit-sharing (net) financing, 17.2 percent was equity investment, and the remainder was convertible bonds.
The value of national venture capital financing remains very small, reaching only 0.15 percent of bank loans, which totaled Rp 4,507.1 trillion (July 2017), and only 0.05 percent of Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which reached Rp 12,994.07 trillion.
The emergence of fintech and e-commerce is expected to increase financing from the national venture capital sector. Banks and investors, both local and foreign, are currently competing to finance local startups. Indeed, Indonesian startups such as Go-Jek and Tokopedia have been able to secure financing of billions of US dollars from foreign investors.
