Most Indonesian young people invest to prepare for the future, not for short-term profit. This was revealed by an investment behavior survey conducted by Katadata Insight Center (KIC) in collaboration with Zigi.id and Sisi+.

72.5% of respondents admitted that their investments aim to prepare for the future, such as education, marriage, and others.

Furthermore, 62.7% of respondents invest to manage idle funds/cash, while 51.6% invest to prepare for retirement.

Next, 33.9% of respondents invest to gain short-term profits, and 20% to prepare for early retirement.

When viewed by age group, the main reason Millennials and Gen Z invest is for the future. Meanwhile, Gen X (39-54 years old) invests for retirement funds.

The total number of respondents in this survey was 1,939 people spread across 33 provinces in Indonesia. The survey was then conducted online using a non-probability sampling method, with a margin of error of around 2.23%.

This survey also asked about the platforms used by the public to buy bonds and forex. The complete survey report, which includes all respondent choices and analysis of young people's investment behavior, can be downloaded via https://katadata.co.id/platform-investasi.
