Bank Indonesia (BI) reports an indicated increase in corporate financing needs in 2024. This is evident from a February 2024 BI survey titled *Survey of Bank Financing Supply and Demand*.
Overall, based on the weighted net balance (WNB) method, corporate financing reached 11.1% in February 2024, higher than January 2024's 6.5%.
By business sector, the agriculture sector recorded the highest WNB at 5.6% in February 2024, unchanged from January 2024.
The second-highest sector was information and communication, at 0.6% in February 2024, up from -0.5% in January 2024.
Real estate followed at 0.6% in February 2024, up from -0.3% in January 2024.
The primary reason for the increased financing needs was to support operational activities, selected by 84.9% of respondents in February 2024. Other reasons included paying maturing obligations (29%); supporting investment activities (20.4%); supporting domestic recovery (11.8%); and others (6.5%).
BI explains that the bank financing supply and demand survey has been conducted monthly since August 2020. The survey was implemented to support the National Economic Recovery (PEN) program in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The survey aims to gather information on financing needs (demand side) and disbursement (supply side).
The survey targets corporations and households (demand side) and banks (supply side) nationwide. Data processing uses the weighted net balance (WNB) method, where respondent answers are multiplied by their credit weight (total 100%), and the difference between the percentage of respondents answering "increase" and "decrease" is calculated.
