In the past year, there have been hundreds of thousands of scam or financial fraud cases in Indonesia, with losses amounting to trillions of rupiah.
This is evident from the reports of the Indonesia Anti-Scam Center (IASC), a fraud case handling body established by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) together with relevant government ministries/agencies and industry players.
During the period of November 2024—October 16, 2025, IASC has received approximately 299 thousand reports from scam victims in Indonesia. The total value of losses reached Rp7 trillion.
The most common scam modus operandi is fraud in online shopping or buying-and-selling transactions.
There are also many cases of fake calls, where fraudsters contact victims by impersonating others.
Below are the details of the 10 most reported scam modus operandi to IASC during November 2024—October 15, 2025:
- Online shopping/buying-and-selling transaction fraud: 53,928 reports
- Fake calls: 31,299 reports
- Investment fraud: 19,850 reports
- Job offer fraud: 18,220 reports
- Prize/giveaway fraud: 15,470 reports
- Social media fraud: 14,229 reports
- Phishing: 13,386 reports
- Social engineering: 9,436 reports
- Fictitious online loans: 4,793 reports
- Sending APK files via WhatsApp: 3,684 reports
Responding to these findings, the Chief Executive of Financial Services Business Actors' Conduct Supervision, Education, and Consumer Protection at OJK, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, urged the public to immediately report similar cases to IASC.
"Abroad, reports must be made within 10 minutes. Here, it takes 12 hours [for the public to report]," said Friderica, as reported by Antara (21/10/2025).
"That [reporting speed] greatly determines whether the money can be recovered or not," she added.
