The Deposit Insurance Agency (LPS) reported that the number of Rural Banks (BPR) or Sharia Rural Banks (BPRS) decreased in the first semester of 2025.

BPR/BPRS are banks that conduct business activities conventionally or based on sharia principles, and whose operations do not directly provide services for current account transactions.

In January 2025, LPS recorded 1,526 BPR/BPRS, comprising 1,352 conventional BPRs and 174 sharia BPRs.

However, by June 2025, the number had decreased to 1,508 banks, consisting of 1,335 conventional BPRs and 173 sharia BPRs.

According to LPS, as of the first semester of 2025, the total nominal deposits in BPR/BPRS amounted to IDR 174.49 trillion, an increase of 0.65% year-to-date (ytd) or 4.42% year-on-year (yoy).

Based on deposit type, the largest nominal portion was in the form of time deposits, accounting for 71.33% of total deposits.

According to LPS, monthly movements showed that nominal time and savings deposits experienced a contraction of 0.06%.

Meanwhile, based on deposit tier, the largest nominal portion was for deposits N ≤ IDR 100 million, accounting for 28.23% of total deposits.
