Bank Indonesia (BI)'s survey shows that the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) reached 118.1 points in June 2025.
This figure indicates optimism, as it is above 100 points. Conversely, confidence is considered pessimistic if the index score is below 100 points.
The July 2025 score also strengthened from June 2025's 117.8 points. This is the third increase since the end of 2024.
Ramdan Denny Prakoso, Executive Director of BI's Communication Department, stated that the increase in consumer confidence in July 2025 was mainly supported by an increase in the Consumer Expectation Index (CEI).
In his written statement, Ramdan mentioned that the July 2025 CEI was recorded at 129.6, higher than the previous month's index of 128.9.
Meanwhile, the Current Economic Conditions Index (CECI) for July 2025 was recorded at 106.6, relatively stable compared to the previous month's index of 106.7.
Is Consumer Purchasing Power Recovering?
Katadata explains that the CCI and purchasing power are two interrelated economic indicators. The CCI reflects consumer perceptions of current and future economic conditions.
Purchasing power, on the other hand, is the consumer's ability to buy goods and services. When the CCI is high, it usually indicates that consumers are optimistic about the economy and tend to increase spending.
Based on BI's July 2025 Consumer Survey, consumer confidence increased for all spending groups. The highest CCI of 119.9 was recorded for respondents with expenditures of Rp 4.1 million to Rp 5 million. This was followed by respondents with expenditures above Rp 5 million, with a CCI of 119.5.
By age group, the CCI was at an optimistic level for all age groups. BI recorded the highest CCI of 122.3 for respondents aged 31 to 40 years and 121.7 for those aged 20 to 30 years.
Spatially, the increase in CCI occurred in the majority of cities, with the highest increase in Pontianak, Semarang, and Jakarta. Meanwhile, a number of cities experienced a decrease in CCI, particularly Medan, Makassar, Surabaya, and Mataram.
