Kominfo Requests Blocking of 821 Online Gambling Bank Accounts; BCA Accounts Highest in Number

The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) identified 821 bank accounts suspected of engaging in online gambling activities between August 8, 2023, and November 19, 2024.

"For November alone, we have submitted 651 requests for these bank accounts to be processed or blocked," said the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, in an online press conference on Thursday (November 21, 2024).

Based on the bank, the requests to block online gambling accounts originated mostly from BCA, with 517 accounts.

This was followed by BRI with 126 accounts, BNI with 58 accounts, Mandiri with 75 accounts, CIMB Niaga with 24 accounts, BSI with 12 accounts, and Danamon with 3 accounts.

Other banks such as Sinarmas, Permata, Maybank, Seabank, Panin Bank, and Mega each had 1 account reported.

"Strong cooperation with banks is crucial because online gambling transactions are channeled through these accounts and funds," said Meutya.

She stated that Komdigi will collaborate with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia to block the flow of funds from online gambling transactions.

In addition, Komdigi reported blocking 104,819 websites and sites suspected of promoting online gambling.
