According to a Bank Indonesia survey, the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) dropped to 123.2 in July 2022, down from 128.2 the previous month.
This is the second consecutive monthly decline since June 2022, as shown in the graph.
The decline in the CCI indicates weakening consumer confidence in overall economic conditions. However, the CCI remains above 100, meaning consumers are still in the optimistic zone.
This optimism is supported by the continued strength of consumer expectations regarding economic activity in the next six months. This is evident in the Consumer Expectation Index (CEI) for July 2022, which remained at 135.5. Although still quite high, this expectation index weakened compared to the previous month's level of 141.8.
Consumer perception of current economic conditions is also still fairly good, although down from the previous month. This is reflected in the Current Economic Conditions Index (CECI), which stands at 110.9, lower than June 2022's 114.5.
Consumer confidence declined across all spending groups, particularly those with expenditures between Rp 4.1 million and Rp 5 million.
By age group, the decline in consumer confidence was experienced by all age groups except those aged 60 and above.
