According to data from the Indonesian Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), there were 506.56 million bank deposit accounts in Indonesia in January 2023. This figure represents a 14% year-on-year (yoy) increase.
However, these accounts are not evenly distributed throughout the country. Several provinces, particularly outside Java, have a significantly lower number of bank customers compared to others.
North Kalimantan had the lowest number of bank accounts nationally in January 2023, with only 1.34 million accounts, or just 0.26% of the national total.
The provinces with the next lowest number of bank accounts were North Maluku (1.54 million), West Sulawesi (1.86 million), and West Papua (1.89 million).

10. Riau Islands: 3.91 million accounts
Conversely, Jakarta had the highest number of bank accounts in Indonesia, reaching 101.96 million accounts, or 20.12% of the national total in January 2023.

The total amount of deposits in general banks nationwide reached Rp 8,004 trillion in January 2023. This figure represents a 7.6% increase compared to the same period the previous year (yoy).
