BNI's Net Profit Rises to Rp 5 Trillion in the First Half of 2021

PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk (BBNI) achieved a net profit of Rp 5 trillion in the first half of 2021. This figure represents a 12.8% increase compared to the same period the previous year.

However, the company still increased its provisioning. This amounted to Rp 9.8 trillion, a 36.2% increase from Rp 7.2 trillion in the first half of 2020. Provisioning is the setting aside of funds based on an evaluation of debtor financing.

BNI's net profit has generally increased over the past five years. Profit, valued at Rp 6.4 trillion in the first half of 2017, rose to Rp 7.4 trillion in the first six months of the following year. The figure then slightly increased to Rp 7.6 trillion in the first half of 2019.

However, this income decreased to Rp 4.5 trillion in January-June 2020 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The company's profits only saw an increase again in the first half of 2021.

Other state-owned banks, namely Bank Mandiri, BRI, and BTN, also recorded an increase in net profit in the range of 20% in the first half of 2021. Bank Mandiri and BRI both earned a profit of Rp 12.5 trillion, while BTN earned Rp 920 billion.
