Most people enjoy eating chocolate, but to varying degrees. According to data from Statista's Global Consumer Outlook, some countries' populations consume significantly more chocolate than others worldwide.
Switzerland leads the way. The report indicates that each Swiss resident consumed 11.6 kilograms (kg) of chocolate per year in 2021. Americans consumed 9 kg per year.
Indeed, the culture of eating or snacking on chocolate is more popular in Europe and the United States. Many people in Asia, however, prefer other sweets to satisfy their sweet tooth.
Switzerland is renowned for its exceptional chocolate industry, with brands like Toblerone and Lindt being the most well-known. Its neighbor, Germany, also ranks high on this list, with 5.7 kilograms per capita.
Conversely, India and China have significantly lower per capita consumption, at 1.0 and 0.2 kilograms respectively, according to Statista.
