Earthquake Today, January 22, 2023, Shakes Purwakarta Regency

A 3.6 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Purwakarta Regency. The earthquake's epicenter was inland. "The earthquake's epicenter was 22 km southwest of Purwakarta Regency and this earthquake is felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, January 22, 2023.

The earthquake occurred at 04:58:36. It was located at a depth of 7 kilometers and posed no tsunami threat. The earthquake's coordinates were 6.73°S (South Latitude) and 107.34°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in the areas of Purwakarta, Cikalong, Cianjur, Karangtengah, Ciranjang, Darangdan, and Cirata with intensities of III, II-III, II-III, II-III, II-III, II-III, and II-III respectively. An intensity of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but caused no damage or casualties. Light hanging objects swayed and glass windows vibrated.
