110 Houses Damaged Due to 6.2 Magnitude Earthquake in Garut

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported a magnitude 6.2 earthquake that struck Garut Regency on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:29 PM WIB.

The epicenter was located at sea, 70 kilometers deep, with coordinates 8.42°S and 107.26°E.

The National Disaster Management Agency's (BNPB) Control and Operation Center recorded 7 affected families and 110 damaged houses.

"As of 2 PM WIB today [Sunday], the total number of affected houses has reached 110 units, up from the previous 27 units," said Head of BNPB's Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, in a statement, as reported by *Antara* on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Based on the level of damage, 3 houses were severely damaged, 21 moderately damaged, 34 slightly damaged, 11 affected, and 41 damaged.

By region, the most significant house damage due to the earthquake occurred in Garut Regency, with 41 houses affected. Bandung Regency had 24 damaged houses, and Sukabumi Regency had 17.

Tasikmalaya Regency reported 7 damaged houses, and another 5 in a different location within Tasikmalaya.

In addition to homes, BNPB also noted that several public facilities were affected, including places of worship, schools, offices, and hospitals.

BNPB urged the public to avoid cracked or damaged buildings due to the earthquake and to check their homes for earthquake-related damage that could compromise structural stability.
