Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Today, Volcanic Ash Reaches 1,000 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 09:29 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 9 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the north. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on January 13, 2024, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 8 volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 10.3-44 mm and durations of 22-186 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 5-kilometer radius to the Northwest-North and Northeast.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 43 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara has had the most eruptions with 17 eruptions.
