Recent 4.9 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Ondong Siau Region

A 4.9 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Ondong Siau. The epicenter was at sea. "The earthquake's epicenter was 82 km southeast of Ondong Siau at sea, and this earthquake was felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, February 27, 2023.

The earthquake occurred at 21:48:19. It was at a depth of 4 kilometers and did not have the potential to cause a tsunami. Meanwhile, the earthquake's coordinates were 2.16° N (North Latitude) and 125.81° E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in Manado and Bitung at intensities II-III and II-III. An MMI scale of II means the earthquake was not felt or was felt only by a few people but was recorded by instruments.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded nine significant earthquakes felt by the public in Indonesia over the past week, with varying magnitudes and depths.
