BMKG: Recent Earthquake in North East Bengkulu Utara, Magnitude 4.4, No Tsunami Potential

A recent earthquake measuring 4.4 magnitude struck North Bengkulu on April 19, 2023. According to a release from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter was located in the sea approximately 54 kilometers southwest of North Bengkulu.

"Earthquake felt, Magnitude: 4.4 on April 19, 2023, 22:39:31," BMKG wrote in its release. The earthquake occurred at coordinates 3.79°S (South Latitude) and 101.86°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in several areas, including Bengkulu City, Bengkulu, and Bengkulu Utara, with intensities of II-III, II-III, and II-III respectively. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.
