Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK): 151 Hotspots Detected Across Indonesia in the Last 24 Hours (Wednesday, March 6, 2024)

Based on the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry's (KLHK) SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system, 24-hour monitoring shows 151 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This is an increase of 27 hotspots compared to the previous period.

This data is derived from satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA, accessed on Wednesday (6/3/2024) at 08.44 WIB. Of the 151 detected hotspots, 7 have a high confidence level, 134 are medium, and 10 are low.

Hotspot confidence levels are divided into three scales: low (0-29), medium (30-79), and high (80-100). The higher the confidence level, the greater the likelihood of forest and land fires in that area.

The highest number of hotspots was detected in South Sulawesi with 31. East Kalimantan is second with 29 hotspots, followed by North Maluku with 23.

Fourteen hotspots were detected in Southeast Sulawesi, followed by North Kalimantan with 11, and East Nusa Tenggara and Papua with 7 and 6 respectively.

A hotspot is a coordinate point in an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of clustered hotspots in an area indicates forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellites remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
