South Sulawesi Had the Most Forest Reforestation in 2019

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the national area of forest and land reforestation activities reached 206,000 hectares in 2019. This figure increased significantly compared to the previous year, which only reached 25,100 hectares.

South Sulawesi was the province with the largest reforestation area in 2019, namely 19,600 hectares. East Java was in second place with a reforestation area of 19,300 hectares.

Following this were West Java with a reforestation area of 18,200 hectares. Meanwhile, the reforestation area in South Sumatra and North Sumatra reached 17,600 hectares and 17,200 hectares, respectively.

Reforestation is one of the mandatory activities to realize forest and land rehabilitation. Reforestation can be carried out in conservation forests, except for nature reserves, protected forests, or production forests.

This activity can be carried out in two ways, namely naturally and managed. Natural reforestation is done by letting nature work on its own in the process of forest and land rehabilitation. Meanwhile, managed reforestation is carried out by involving human actions, such as replanting trees.
