Earthquake Today, March 3, 2024, Strikes Jayapura Regency

A magnitude (M) 4.2 earthquake struck Jayapura Regency. The epicenter was inland. "The earthquake's epicenter was 10 km northeast of Jayapura Regency, and this earthquake was felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote the BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website on March 3, 2024.

The earthquake occurred at 13:37:59. It had a depth of 10.0 kilometers and posed no tsunami threat. The earthquake's coordinates were 2.50 LS (South Latitude) and 140.43 BT (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the MMI scale in Jayapura and Jayapura with intensities of III and III. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but caused no damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.
