Ministry of Environment and Forestry: Number of Hotspots in Indonesia Reaches 421 in the Last 24 Hours (Friday, February 23, 2024)

Based on the forest and land fire monitoring system SiPongi of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), 24-hour monitoring shows 421 hotspots detected in Indonesia.

This data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA accessed on Friday (2/23/2024) at 08.51 WIB. Of the 421 hotspots detected, 11 have a high confidence level, 397 are medium scale, and 13 are low scale.

The hotspot confidence level is divided into 3 scales. The low scale has a range of 0-29, the medium scale 30-79, and the high scale 80-100. The higher the hotspot confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires in a particular area.

The highest number of detected hotspots is in East Kalimantan with 148 points. Central Sulawesi is second with 88 hotspots. North Maluku is third with 42 hotspots.

25 hotspots were detected in East Nusa Tenggara, followed by South Sulawesi with 17 hotspots, and Riau and West Sulawesi each having 13 and 11 detected hotspots respectively.

Hotspots are coordinate points of an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, the large number of hotspots clustered in one area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellite detection remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
