Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted again tonight (Sunday, May 5, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (May 5, 2024) at 00:13 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 13 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 200 meters above the peak or 1,784 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate to thick intensity towards the north. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 145 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on May 5, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 3 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 7.4-29.6 millimeters and durations of 72-146 seconds.

Then, there were 3 emission quakes with amplitudes of 10.5-29.6 millimeters and durations of 30-45 seconds, and 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 50 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the North-Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 629 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (211 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 88 times.
