185 Hotspots Detected in Indonesia in the Last 24 Hours (Wednesday, December 20, 2023)

Based on the forest and land fire monitoring system SiPongi of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the last 24-hour monitoring shows 185 hotspots detected in Indonesia.

This data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA accessed on Wednesday (20/12/2023) at 13.40 WIB. Of the 185 detected hotspots, 3 have a high confidence level, 178 are medium scale, and 4 are low scale.

The hotspot confidence level is divided into 3 scales. The low scale ranges from 0-29, the medium scale from 30-79, and the high scale from 80-100. The higher the hotspot confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires in a particular area.

The highest number of detected hotspots is in South Sulawesi with 30 points. Papua is second with 28 hotspots. East Java is third with 18 hotspots.

15 hotspots were detected in Banten, followed by East Kalimantan with 14 hotspots, and Central Sulawesi and Central Java each have 13 and 12 detected hotspots respectively.

Hotspots are coordinate points of an area with a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of hotspots clustered in one area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellite detection remains the most effective method for monitoring forest and land fires over large areas.
