Based on a report from PT PLN (Persero), at least 6,500 villages in Aceh Province had their electricity grids affected after floods and landslides in late November 2025.
As of Sunday (18/1/2026), 6,432 villages, or 98.95% of that number, have had their electricity restored. Meanwhile, 68 villages, or 1.05%, are still without electricity.
The villages that are still without electricity are spread across eight regencies: North Aceh, West Aceh, Bireuen, Gayo Lues, Aceh Tamiang, East Aceh, Bener Meriah, and Central Aceh.
PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, explained that the villages still experiencing outages are located in areas with the most severe geographical challenges, such as inaccessible, severely damaged, or completely lost roads.
"However, we are not waiting. We continue to work persistently and reconnect electricity to the deepest parts of Aceh," Darmawan stated in his remarks.
General Manager of PLN Aceh Main Distribution Unit (UID), Eddi Saputra, said that there were 171 landslide points blocking access and 14 damaged bridges, hindering the mobilization of heavy equipment and electrical materials.
According to him, the team's current concentration is in areas that are still isolated. In Central Aceh, efforts are underway to restore permanent electricity grids in 36 villages, followed by 13 villages in Bener Meriah, and several villages in Gayo Lues and Aceh Tamiang.
"Our officers in the field remain on standby at points closest to the landslide locations. As soon as access is possible, our technical team will immediately move in to repair poles and cables that collapsed due to the disaster," Eddi explained.
While awaiting the repair process, the 68 villages that are still without electricity will receive power supply from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM)'s 1,000 genset program.
