Based on research by Low Carbon Development Indonesia (LCDI), the potential risk of extinction in Indonesia is increasing. This is consistent with records in the Red List Index.

As is known, in 1993 Indonesia's index was 0.85 points, but in 2020 it dropped to 0.75 points.

This decrease is based on species groups determined by the threat categories of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), in the Red List of Threatened Species.

LCDI calculated various species groups in Indonesia threatened with extinction in 2023. These findings were processed by LCDI from IUCN data.

The most endangered species in 2023, as stated in the report Indonesia Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2025-2045, include:

Actinopterygii/fish: 250 species
Mammals: 222 species
Anthozoa/coral reefs: 185 species
Aves/birds: 169 species
Chondrichthyes/sharks: 127 species
