Recent 4.9 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Takengon, Central Aceh

A recent earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude struck Takengon, Aceh Tengah, on March 25, 2024. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake's epicenter was located on land, approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Takengon, Aceh Tengah.

"Earthquake felt, Magnitude: 4.9 on March 25, 2024, 19:49:06," BMKG wrote in its release. The earthquake occurred at coordinates 4.26°N (North Latitude) and 96.86°E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in several areas, including Gayo, with an intensity of II-III. An MMI scale of III means the earthquake was felt by several people but did not cause damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 15 significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
