4.9 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Lhokseumawe City Area

A 4.9 magnitude (M) earthquake struck Lhokseumawe City. The epicenter was at sea. "The earthquake's epicenter was 29 km northwest of Lhokseumawe City at sea, and this earthquake is felt and should be relayed to the public," wrote BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) on its official website, February 27, 2023.

The earthquake occurred at 10:40:02. It was located at a depth of 10 kilometers and posed no tsunami threat. The earthquake's coordinates were 5.41° N (North Latitude) and 96.99° E (East Longitude).

The earthquake was felt in Lhokseumawe at an intensity of III MMI. This means the earthquake was felt by several people but caused no damage or accidents. Light hanging objects swayed, and window panes vibrated.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded nine significant earthquakes felt by the public across Indonesia in the past week, varying in magnitude and depth.
