The price of fuel oil (BBM) generally fluctuates in line with the rise and fall of global crude oil prices.
However, in the last year and a half, the price of non-subsidized BBM from Pertamina, specifically Pertamax (RON 92), has tended to be below market price.
In January 2022, Pertamina sold Pertamax fuel at Rp9,000 per liter.
Meanwhile, similar BBM from other brands was sold at a higher price, such as Shell Super (RON 92) which was priced at Rp12,040 per liter, and BP 92 (RON 92) at Rp11,990 per liter.
Then in April 2022, the price of BBM from all these brands surged, impacted by the increase in global crude oil prices due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
However, amidst this, the price of Pertamax remained cheaper than RON 92 BBM from Shell and BP.
A similar trend continues until June 2024, as shown in the graph above.
Furthermore, from the beginning to the middle of this year, Pertamina has not raised the price of Pertamax once.
Meanwhile, the price of RON 92 BBM from other brands such as Shell and BP has tended to increase.
According to Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Irto Ginting, this decision was made to maintain stability.
"Adjustments to the price of non-subsidized BBM do refer to regulations. However, under the current conditions, we support the government's efforts to maintain economic stability," said Irto, as reported by *CNN Indonesia* (1/5/2024).
