According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) report, the share of new and renewable energy (EBT) in Indonesia's primary energy mix reached 13.1% in 2023.

This figure is higher than the previous year but still falls short of the revised 2023 target of 17.9%.

"There has been an increase (in the EBT mix), but it's not significant," said ESDM Minister Arifin Tasrif at a press conference on Monday (15/1/2024).

"Significant efforts are needed to approach the (EBT mix) target. We are targeting a 23% EBT mix in 2025," said Arifin.

To increase the EBT mix, the Ministry of ESDM has stated that it has prepared a number of strategies, namely:

* Development of EBT power plants targeting 10.6 gigawatts (GW) in 2025;
* Implementation of the Rooftop Solar Power Plant (PLTS Atap) program, targeting 3.6 GW in 2025;
* Conversion of diesel power plants to EBT;
* B35 mandatory program, targeting 13.9 million kiloliters in 2025;
* Biomass co-firing program at coal-fired power plants (PLTU), targeting 10.2 million tons in 2025;
* Provision of EBT access in remote, outermost, and forward areas (3T);
* Geothermal energy exploration; and
* Utilization of off-grid and direct EBT.
