A January 2021 report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) shows that Russia is the world's largest nuclear power, possessing 6,255 warheads.
The United States (US) follows in second place with 5,550 warheads. China and the United Kingdom possess 350 and 225 warheads, respectively.
France and Pakistan are next, with 290 and 165 warheads respectively. India, Israel, and North Korea have 156, 90, and 40 warheads respectively.
In total, these nine countries possessed 13,080 nuclear warheads in 2021. This represents a 2.38% decrease compared to the previous year's total of 13,400 warheads.
For information, Iran will allow inspectors from the UN nuclear watchdog to inspect the country's nuclear monitoring equipment. This agreement comes ahead of an important meeting between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Monday, September 13, 2021, which is seen as a sign that relations between Iran and the IAEA are moving forward after years of deterioration.
