The Indonesian Biofuel Producers Association (Aprobi) has recorded the production, distribution, and export of Indonesian biodiesel from January to April 2023.
Production volume reached 1.02 million kiloliters (kl) in January 2023, the highest in the first four months of 2023. Production decreased to 947.68 thousand kl in February 2023, but increased again to 1.01 million kl in March 2023, before falling to 967.57 thousand kl in April 2023.
Domestic distribution remained below 1 million kl throughout the period. Specifically, 930.92 thousand kl were distributed in January 2023, increasing to 937.85 thousand kl in February 2023. Distribution then decreased to 905.97 thousand kl in March 2023 and 892.32 thousand kl in April 2023.
Aprobi's export data is only available until March 2023. Exports totaled 22.98 thousand kl in January 2023, rising to 32.83 thousand kl in February 2023 and significantly increasing to 50.65 thousand kl in March 2023.
Note that this data excludes data from PT Energi Unggul Persada for March 2023.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has established a phased implementation of minimum biodiesel usage as a fuel oil (BBM) blend, as regulated in Minister of ESDM Regulation Number 12 of 2015. This regulation mandates a minimum of 30% biodiesel blend (B30) in fuel oil starting January 2020.
The Ministry of ESDM uses a projection of 36.47 million kl of biosolar distribution in 2022 and a 3% demand growth assumption. Therefore, biosolar sales in 2023 are estimated to reach 37.56 million kl.
"The estimated biodiesel requirement to support the implementation of B35 is 13.14 million kl, or an increase of approximately 19% compared to the 2022 allocation of 11.02 million kl," wrote the Ministry of ESDM on its official website on December 15, 2022.
