Indonesian Coal Production Increased in the Last 4 Years

According to data from the BP Statistical Review of World Energy compiled by Databoks, Indonesia's coal production has increased over the past four years.

This data includes all types of coal, such as anthracite, bituminous coal, sub-bituminous coal, and lignite, measured in tons or energy equivalent.

A consecutive upward trend has been observed from 2021 to 2024. However, looking at the period from 2015-2024, the nation's coal production was volatile until 2020.

The deepest decline occurred in 2020, plummeting by 8.51% compared to 2019 production, while the highest increase was in 2018, soaring by 20.93% compared to 2017 production.

In 2024, Indonesia's coal production was recorded at 836.13 million tons, an increase of 7.86% compared to 2023 production, which was 775.18 million tons.

Furthermore, the coal production in 2024 was the highest during the 2015-2024 period.
