Israel attacked Iran's South Pars gas field infrastructure on Saturday, June 14, 2025. This attack caused Iran to temporarily halt gas production at the site.
According to Kobolyev, a former member of the board of directors of the Ukrainian gas company Naftogaz, this attack could trigger a rise in gas prices in Europe.
Kobolyev explained that Iran supplies gas to Turkey, which then sells it to the European Union (EU). However, as a result of the Israeli attack, the gas supply from Iran is at risk of being cut off.
"Thus, Turkey will be forced either to reduce gas supplies to the EU or to increase the share of more expensive LNG. In any case, this will cause a rise in prices in the EU," said Kobolyev, as reported by the Ukrainian media outlet Antikor on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
According to data from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Iran is one of the major gas-producing countries globally.
