PT Pertamina (Persero) reported a net profit of US$3.8 billion, equivalent to Rp56.59 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp14,868 per US$). This is the highest profit in the history of the state-owned enterprise (SOE).
Compared to 2021, Pertamina's net profit reached US$2.04 billion or Rp30.41 trillion. This figure is higher than the profit recorded in 2020, which amounted to US$1.05 billion or Rp15.62 trillion.
The net profit in 2020 was the lowest profit Pertamina received in the last six years.
As reported by *Katadata*, Pertamina's President Director Nicke Widyawati ensured that the company's outstanding performance was not due to luck or windfall profits from oil prices or the rupiah exchange rate.
Nicke explained that the profit performance increased by 86% compared to 2021 due to the contribution of the staff and cost effectiveness.
“Some say, ‘oh, this is because of ICP [Indonesia Crude Price] linkage.’ Even when the exchange rate was high, we've experienced high exchange rates in previous years. We've also had ICP above 100, but the achievement wasn't like this," said Nicke in the *Media Briefing Capaian Kinerja 2022* in Jakarta on Tuesday (6/6).
She explained that the biggest contribution supporting Pertamina's profit increase was the reduction in cost burden. According to Nicke, the cost burden gradually decreased from 93%-94% of revenue in 2012-2014 to 89% in 2022.
Nicke added that cost optimization in the 2021-2022 period contributed to savings of up to US$3.273 billion.
“In 2022, we were able to close with the highest performance in Pertamina's history. We recorded a profit of US$3.81 billion, equivalent to Rp56.61 trillion. Revenue increased by 48% to US$85 billion, which is about one-third of the State Budget," said Nicke.
