The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) collected input data on renewable energy throughout 2017-2021.
This renewable energy includes biomass, water, geothermal, wind, and solar. Of these energy sources, biomass contributed the largest input over the past five years.
BPS records show that in 2017, biomass input reached 526 petajoules (PJ). This figure increased in 2018 to 640 PJ.
Then, in 2019, the energy input from the combustion of this organic waste increased significantly to 802 PJ. Unfortunately, in 2020, it dropped to 774 PJ.
Furthermore, in 2021, biomass input increased again to 799 PJ.
The next largest renewable energy input was water. Although its volume is still far less than biomass, water energy shows a dominant increase.
Specifically, in 2017, water energy input was 72 PJ. Then, in 2018 and 2019, it decreased to the same volume, namely 52 PJ.
In 2020, the input rose to 76 PJ. Then, in 2021, it slightly increased to 77 PJ.

The next largest renewable energy input was geothermal. In 2017, this energy input reached 39 PJ. In 2018, it decreased to 34 PJ.
Then, in 2019, it slightly increased to 35 PJ. This energy input experienced a significant increase in 2020, reaching 49 PJ. Then, in 2021, the figure slightly increased to 50 PJ.
Next is wind energy. During 2017-2018, this energy did not contribute to Indonesia's renewable energy input.
However, in 2019-2021, wind energy input reached 1 PJ each year.
Similar to wind, solar energy did not contribute input throughout 2017-2019. However, there was an increase in 2020-2021, each contributing 1 PJ.
Overall, the trend of renewable energy input has continued to increase over the past five years.
Specifically, in 2017 it reached 637 PJ; in 2018 it reached 726 PJ; in 2019 it reached 890 PJ; in 2020 it reached 901 PJ; in 2021 it reached 928 PJ.
