Indonesia's Crude Oil Export Volume Reaches Record Low in 2019

Indonesia's crude oil exports showed a downward trend throughout the 1996-2020 period, in line with declining domestic production. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the volume of crude oil exports reached 38.25 million tons in 1996, then continuously decreased to only 4.39 million tons in 2020.

Crude oil export volume reached its highest level in 1997 at 38.79 million tons and its lowest at 3.58 million tons in 2019. The largest increase occurred in 2015, reaching 25.44%, and the deepest decline occurred in 2019 at 64.98%.

Similarly, the volume of refined oil exports showed a downward trend from 10.69 million tons in 1996 to only 4.82 million tons in 2020. The highest volume was recorded in 1996 and the lowest in 2016, at 2.87 million tons.

For information, crude oil lifting in 1996 reached 1.6 million barrels per day (bpd) and continued to decline to only 707 thousand bpd in 2020.
