The Acting Governor of East Kalimantan Province, Akmal Malik, has announced the 2024 Regency/City Minimum Wage (UMK) for the province.
The highest 2024 UMK in East Kalimantan is in Berau Regency, at Rp3,832,297. This is a 4.26% increase compared to the 2023 Berau UMK.
Meanwhile, the lowest 2024 UMK in the province is in Paser Regency, at Rp3,372,362, a 3.4% increase from the previous year.
Akmal Malik stated that the determination of the 2024 UMK across the province is based on considerations of the economic, social, and political conditions in the region. It is also based on the results of a meeting of the Regional Wage Council (DPD) involving elements of the government, employers, and workers/laborers.
"The determination of the UMK is in accordance with Government Regulation (PP) Number 51 of 2023 concerning Amendments to Government Regulation Number 36 of 2021 concerning Wages. It contains the formula and method for calculating the minimum wage," he said on Thursday (30/11/2023).
Head of the East Kalimantan Manpower and Transmigration Office, Rozani Erawadi, said that workers/laborers with less than one year of experience who possess specific qualifications required for their position can be paid more than the UMK.
Rozani continued that workers/laborers with one year or more of experience should refer to the wage structure and scale that must be compiled and implemented by the company.
According to Rozani, out of the 10 regencies/cities in East Kalimantan, only Mahakam Ulu Regency has not yet been able to determine its UMK. This is because Mahakam Ulu has not yet formed an industrial relations institution.
"Therefore, Mahulu does not yet have a Regional Wage Council," said Rozani.
Rozani stated that the 2024 UMK for all of East Kalimantan will be effective from January 1, 2024.
Rozani said that his office hopes that the UMK in the regencies and cities will improve the welfare of workers, stimulate company productivity, and drive regional economic growth.
"Copies of the Governor's Decision and Announcement regarding the determination of the UMK throughout East Kalimantan in 2024 will be submitted to the regents/mayors in East Kalimantan Province for dissemination in their respective regions," he said.
