A recent survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) reveals a diverse range of political participation among Indonesian youth.
Voting in elections was the most common form of political participation, chosen by 87.2% of respondents. "The most common form of political participation among young people is exercising their right to vote in elections," wrote the KIC research team in their survey release.
Next, 18.6% of respondents chose participating in political discussions. Furthermore, 16% participated in political education through discussions/seminars.
Another 15.3% served as polling station officials (TPS), while 9.8% were campaign team members/volunteers for political parties or legislative candidates (caleg).
Additionally, 3.2% were party members, while only 2% aspired to become legislative candidates.
The KIC survey involved a total of 1,005 respondents with mobile phone numbers, representing the entire Indonesian demographic, with 60.6% male and 39.4% female respondents.
All respondents were young people: Generation Z aged 17-26 (50.4%) and Millennials aged 27-42 (49.6%).
Data collection was conducted online from October 11-17, 2023, using tSurvey's data collection platform and a non-probability sampling method.
The survey's margin of error is approximately 3.1% at a 95% confidence level.
