KIC Survey: Over Half of Young People Are Interested in Politics

Of the 1,005 Indonesian young people surveyed by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), 59.8% expressed interest in politics. This breaks down to 52% stating they are interested and 7.8% stating they are very interested.

A smaller percentage of respondents expressed interest in politics to the extent of wanting to become a member of a political party (8.7%), and an interest in becoming a politician or legislative candidate (6.9%).
The KIC survey involved 1,005 respondents with mobile phone numbers, representing the entire Indonesian demographic, with a proportion of 60.6% male respondents and 39.4% female respondents.
All respondents were from the youth group, namely Generation Z or those aged 17-26 years (50.4%), and millennials or those aged 27-42 years (49.6%).
Data collection was conducted online from October 11-17, 2023, using tSurvey data collection with a non-probability sampling method.
The margin of error for this survey is +/- 3.1% at a 95% confidence level.
